BLOG POST 1(Introducing Myself)

My name is Darius Allard and I am an Environmental Science and Sustainable Technology student attending the University of the West Indies. This is my first year of doing this course and I am enjoying and understanding it so far. I fine the course is generally easy with a fairly manageable workload and assignments. However, as a new student it is a bit challenging . Although, even though I faced these few challenges, I am still very interested about what I am doing as I have always had a liking for the environment and nature.

Ever since I was a young child, I was always amazed  by nature and animals and the ecosystem. It has always sparked an interest in me influencing me as a child to learn about the natural environment and read multiple different books and watch various TV shows and documentaries about animals and different ecosystems all around the world. Afterwards, when I grew up and I finished secondary school, my interests  have never changed relating to my likeness for the natural environmental. I have still continued to learn about the environment and picked subjects that has some relation to it such as biology.

As my educational knowledge increased I also learnt about the modernization of the world. I also noticed a trend which is with the increase of technology the world and people started to misuse the natural environment by pollution, cutting down trees, overfishing and multiple other factors. As a man who always had an interest in the environment learning about how we as humans have mistreated the natural environment it really angered me and increased a passion in me more as a young adult to learn more about nature and also on how to preserve the environment and protect it. Which influenced me to pursue this course to learn about how to educate and inform the masses of the public whether they are highly educated or not on how to preserve the environment and to take certain measures whether big or small to prevent simple things such as pollution etc.

Therefore, the various factors i have listed above stated why I have always being interested in the natural environment. Also, I have tried to involved myself in multiple projects to help the environment such as cleaning drains and beaches as well as events to learn about the different ecosystems in my country such as the swamps in caroni and nariva, the northern range and the countryside areas. I also hope that the knowledge I gain from my Environmental Science and Sustainable Technology Course that it will help me that when I go to more of these events and programmes that I will have a better understanding to what is taking place and I would also be able to probably give an insight and spread information to my fellow companions and the people around me about the natural environment.
